Beelneith (贝欧尼斯) is an antagonist NPC in Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium - Project Neural Convergence. She's a projection of the emotional data of the Dolls of Project Neural Cloud, given form by exterior intervention. She takes the form of PersicariaPersicaria .
Story Involvement
Beelneith was born from the emotional data of the Dolls of Project Neural Cloud that had been brought back to the Magrasea backup by Lewis[1] after the second wipe-off.[2] She was created by an intruder, believed to be a spy planted in 42LAB. This person also gave Beelneith the ability to control Entropy.[3] Experiencing only the strong feelings love, longing, trust, friendship, loyalty and intimacy of the Dolls for the Professor[1] without the memories necessary to understand them, she became extremely possessive towards them. Her form was determined to be Persicaria's appearance because her feelings for the Professor were the strongest ones.[4]
When 16LAB noticed that the Entropy virus was taking over Magrasea again, 42LAB considered resetting it entirely, but Persica opposed this solution because they would lose the data inside the Cloud, instead preferring to research the source code of the virus to create a counter-measure. A week later, Beelneith located the Elmo and infected it and Groza Squad with Entropy, causing Persica to intervene by sending the Commander to Magrasea, reclaiming their identity as the Professor.[5] After successfully luring them in, Beelneith stole the Professor's authorizations, used them to restart the Black Box Evolution Theory protocol to seal the backup to the real world again, then started broadcasting the Elmo's location to the Varjagers and bounty hunters, forcing Groza Squad to defend the Elmo in a weakened state. By destroying the Elmo and the Dolls, Beelneith intended to sever all of the Professor's ties to the real world.[1]
Lewis used her elevated authorizations as a 42LAB researcher to log out Persicaria and the Professor despite the black box protocol.[1] She intended to allow Beelneith to absorb her, then trigger her own neural meltdown to take her down with her,[6] but the plan failed since Beelneith had an overwhelming operands advantage.[7] The Professor decided to return to the Cloud to save Lewis, and also because they didn't get enough virus base code to save Groza Squad.[6] Beelneith released Lewis, which distracted Persicaria and opened the Professor for an attack. But when Beelneith seized the Professor, she realized that they were actually Persicaria in disguise, a trick that was already used by the Professor to fool Eosphorus. This allowed Persicaria to get close enough to Beelneith to hurt and weaken her. The Professor then allowed Beelneith to capture and infect them with Entropy, but they then used the virus extractor on themself to complete the antivirus, further weakening Beelneith. Finally, Persicaria used a wide-area invasion hack to enter Beelneith's Level II with the Professor.[7]
Beelneith accessed the Professor's memories and forced them to relive painful moments to convince them that they should abandon the real world, but the Professor said that running away would be a betrayal of their past and future companions. In another part of Level II, Beelneith accused Persicaria of being a coward for ignoring her feelings and not keeping the Professor safe in the Cloud. Persicaria explained that she agreed to delete the Professor's memories because she trusts them and supports their ideals, and knows they will eventually be reunited.[4]
With the Exiles connecting remotely to share their operands, Lewis punched through the carapace and hit Beelneith directly, allowing the Professor to stab her in Level II and sending her into a frenzy before being destroyed on Level I.[8] While Persicaria could have destroyed Beelneith on her own using her powers as the Entropic Arbiter, she preferred a more targeted approach as to not destabilize the newborn Cloud following the second wipe-off.[3]
