Gameplay

Jumps out of the battlefield at the start of the fight and descends periodically to use her skill Isolation, which deals 5 instances of high damage with 1 less damage stack per ally adjacent (non-diagonally) to the target. Summons basic Paradeus units in her base form. In her upgraded form, she summons Nytos variants depending on player team composition: Hammerers for SG, Patrollers for SMG, Supporter for HG and Hawkeye for AR, RF and MG. For this reason a strong HG team is an effective strategy to prevent her from summoning powerful troops.

Lore / Story involvement

“No. 10954”,[1] the Nyto who would later be called Morridow,[Note 1] was cloned as part of the same batch as Machlian[2] and Badbsca as part of Project Cocoon.[3] Nytos born from Project Cocoon had the flaw of possessing desires, with Morridow's being to find “freedom”[4] in the form of her perfect “self”, rather than as a replica of Lunasia, which was William's goal.[5] While Machlian was considered the most perfect sample of the batch,[1] she also refused to take part in the experiments.[2]

10954 was the only sample that survived the battle royale organized by “Father” among the rest of the “spider” batch while displaying sufficient gene density,[6] earning the title of “Big Sister” among other Nytos.[2] Despite being recognized as inferior to Machlian in all but obedience and considered as just another reject by William, 10954 still claimed to be the perfect Nyto that “Father” sought, and rejected Machlian's offer to run away with her.[7] 10954 called Machlian her “big sister”, though she deeply hated her.[8] Morridow valued the detachment and single-minded devotion of Nytos, perceiving human emotionality and self-indulgence as flaws.[9] 10954 took part in the massacre of villages with Iaso's Boxes as part of the search for immune individuals. At some point before September 2064, 10954 was tasked with impersonating Morridow Voigt. She invaded her apartment, killed her, and began using her voice, appearance and mannerisms.[10][Note 1]

Morridow was called “Teacher” by Gray.[11] Morridow determined Gray's affinity as “scorpion”, trained her in impersonation techniques[6] and “helped her choose her path”.[12] Gray called Morridow “the most exceptional Nyto”:[13] though Morridow's efficiency ratings were below those of Gray, Grig, Bramedb and even Narciss, Gray admired Morridow's craftiness and ruthlessness in successfully eliminating Machlian, a more perfect Nyto than her, without getting punished in return, demonstrating that she had somehow gained “Father”'s favor, an extremely important factor in Paradeus' internal politics. Gray's respect for Morridow bothered Grig, who had a privileged relationship with Gray and considered her to be much more competent.[1]

“Father” had also put her in charge of Operation Cocoon in Berlin,[14][15] effectively becoming Nyto-in-command of the area.[1] William had secretly promised Morridow that if she could complete Operation Cocoon, she would be allowed to kill Babdsca and absorb her to become a fully-immune individual.[4] Working with Gray, she collected information about Paradeus she wasn't supposed to know, such as the origins of Sana.[16] Soon before Morridow left for Bremen, Machlian successfully escaped, angering Nemhran, but Morridow adeptly purged the Bee Sting database from any proof of the incident taking place. Morridow offered to let Nemhran take the credit for Operation Cocoon and the capture of Angelia in exchange for Machlian's location.[1] In fact, Morridow had followed Badbsca's plan to arrange the execution of Machlian, as Badbsca thought she needed to be returned to her Cocoon again if they wanted to complete their metamorphosis into fully-immune individuals.[17]

For her involvement in the Bremen investigations of Dual Randomness, read the NPC page Morridow.

Chase for Machlian

After escaping from Angelia's trap by jumping from her plane 400 feet[18] over the Weser river, Morridow escaped the Stasi search and returned to Paradeus, where she was physically punished for failing to capture Angelia. Morridow gave Narciss the mission to locate and kill Machlian,[19] though she failed during her attack at the Berlin quarantine wall.[20] At the same time, the Earl dispatched the Commander to the Paradeus sect village of Bohnsdorf near Berlin to capture “Morridow”, unaware of the resemblance between Morridow and Machlian.[21]

In Morridow's apartment, K found a photograph of the abandoned Oberstein manor in Neu-Tempelhof, but Angelia didn't have the resources to identify or locate the building yet.[22] The experience of Morridow's betrayal and the discovery of Paradeus' ability to impersonate anyone caused Angelia to doubt nearly everyone around her as she continued her investigations in Berlin. This ability also cast doubt on Machlian's apparent meekness, and Angelia warned the Commander not to trust her during her interrogation.[23][24] These doubts increased after ST AR-15 discovered Morridows' memories in locked sectors of Machlian's VCI that only opened as night,[10] leading to Persica's theory that Morridow and Machlian were closely related on a biological level, causing a type of twin telepathy.[25]

It was eventually revealed that Machlian had been used as a bait to lead the Commander into the Sector D8 lab and capture Dandelion. To secure the ELID cure that could be synthesized from Machlian's blood, Dandelion was taken into the abandoned lab, where a special jammer had been installed to render her powerless.[26] Morridow attempted to trick the Dolls of Squad Griffin by impersonating Machlian, but couldn't hoodwink them and the Dolls managed to leave a UV marker on her, which was used to identify the real Machlian.[27] Morridow and Narciss ambushed the Commander's group before the lab's exit, killing Machlian,[28] but the others were saved when Squad 404 deactivated the jammer and Dandelion's body was taken over by M4A1,[29] who mangled Narciss[30] and captured Morridow.[31]

Griffin prisoner

Even softened by AR-15's physical torture,[32] the Commander's Dolls proved unable to efficiently hack into Morridow's VCI.[33] M4's powers were however very effective against her, as she could force Morridow to confront her imperfection,[7][34] and convinced her to give the location of the factories producing Iaso's Boxes.[35] As AR Team became locked in combat in the factories, Morridow attempted to make M4 surrender in exchange for saving her team, but M4 was absolutely confident in their capabilities and instead forced Morridow to give up the location of the control rooms to lift the lockdown on the factories. Under the pretense of making M4 remember a certain song by whistling it, Morridow signaled to Gray to give up the location.[36]

While the Commander's troops investigated another production line, Morridow was surprised when Grig attempted on her own accord to kill her so Gray could take her place in the Paradeus hierarchy, but she was saved by M4.[13] M4 said that she couldn't let Morridow die until she'd seen her “real” self and saved her, and after another round of mental torture,[34] Morridow claimed she would give the location of the Iaso's Boxes storage as thanks for saving her life.[37] Her intel was outdated and the warehouse empty, save for an order manifest[38] that enabled the Stasi to locate the real location of the bombs.[39]

Morridow is recaptured by M16A1 after she tried to kidnap M4A1/Dandelion.

While the Commander intercepted the bombs in Berlin Airport, M4 allowed Morridow to speak with her privately, asking RO635 to leave them alone.[40] M4 questioned Morridow about what she would do if she managed to reach perfection. Morridow replied that she would then absorb M4 on her quest for perfection, and M4 offered to let Morridow merge with her after she completed one condition: Morridow had to ensure the destruction of the Lake of Cognition and of the remaining subjects of Project Cocoon.[4] By convincing “Father” to let her absorb the other Cocoons, Morridow would also increase her perfection while destroying the remaining subjects.[5] To help Morridow complete this goal, M4 gave her information belonging to Lunasia[41] and allowed her to return to Avernus.[42] M4's look of pity every time she looked at her left a strong impression on Morridow.[43][41] Soon after, RO was knocked out and Morridow escaped in a helicopter with the unconscious M4, but she was stopped by M16A1.[44] With her mounting amount of failed escapes, Morridow was increasingly considered a liability by both Paradeus, even by Gray, and by the Commander,[45] especially after M4's disappearance rendered her useless as a information source.[46] Gray still offered the Commander to exchange Morridow for Angelia,[47] though this was a trap and they never brought Angelia to the exchange location.[48]

The spiderMorridow has returned but she walked out of his room alive and gained an opportunity for promotion. The exact reason is related to a girl named Lunasia.
— Anonymous report to the Earl during the Battle of the Dead Sea.[49]

Having returned to Paradeus territory, and following reports that the Commander had ceased operations in Berlin and moved to Frankfurt, Morridow ordered Gray and Grig to urgently return to Avernus without waiting for orders. As her rival Nemhran was returning from Moscow, her presence threatened to capture “Father”'s attention, and Morridow needed to bring M4's “gift” to him to make up for the failure of Cocoon in Berlin, or all three Nytos could be discarded. The Commander was in fact still in Berlin and, using a tracker implanted by M4 SOPMOD II in Morridow's body when she was unconscious, tracked her movements into the Red Zone surrounding the Dead Sea.[50] The tracking, combined with the Stasi's own investigations, confirmed the location of Paradeus' HQ, allowing Operation Aeneas to take place.[51]

After fending off an attack from Task Force Aeneas in a Red Zone outpost,[52] Morridow, Gray and Grig took an aircraft in the Dead Sea to enter Avernus, loosing the tailing Dolls with Narciss' assistance.[53] Morridow was unconcerned with the risk of the Task Force discovering their HQ, arguing they could simply kill all that made it close enough.[54] Ignoring her severe wounds, Morridow asked to see “Father” immediately after arriving,[55] and was taken to William's operation room. She transferred the data given to her by M4, revealing memories from the original Lunasia. William was furious that she had obtained intimate information from his sister and threatened to kill Morridow by slashing her throat with a scalpel, but Morridow pleaded that she knew how to make contact with the genuine Lunasia again. William ordered Morridow to never speak of what she had seen, and personally performed an enhancement of Morridow's body.[41] Morridow was also able to absorb Badbsca and Machlian.[5] Moreover, William included Morridow in his own plans, starting with assisting in his capture by the Commander.[56] Morridow considered herself untouchable after this exchange, not bothering to hide her past transgressions from Bee Sting, and used her insider intel to buy Bramedb's allegiance.[16]

After Squad Wolf Pack entered Avernus and fought against Gray, she received orders to fall back and let the newly modified Morridow take over, but she was killed by AK-15 before she could retreat. Wolf Pack engaged Morridow next, intending to assist in Angelia's evacuation,[57] but elected to retreat after seeing that she proved too much of a challenge.[58] After the start of Operation Muromets, Morridow was confronted by Squad Taraxacum,[59] and fought with them to buy time for the evacuation of Avernus.[60] Before leaving, following RPK-16's instructions, she transferred AK-12's neural cloud from Koleda's body into the most advanced Doll frame ever conceived. The body itself and the copy of Nadia it contained provided AK-12 with the necessary tools to destroy one of the Relic keys.[61] She was among the first high-ranking Nytos to evacuate by air.[62]

Morridow's death.

After the fall of Avernus and the destruction of the Lake of Cognition sustaining the Nyto gestalt mind, Nermhran took over Operation Cocoon and ordered Morridow to gather all of her units from Bremen and Berlin to Frankfurt in order to salvage the situation.[9] Morridow was put in charge of monitoring Embla and the “All Hallows' Eve” plan, but didn't trust her and doubted “Father”'s plan to have mankind accept to live with Nytos could work.[63] She was vindicated when Embla allowed Task Force DEFY to kill her and ruin Paradeus' demonstration of their advanced technology.[64]

As Nemhran frantically prepared for the completion of Operation Cocoon in Frankfurt, William ordered Morridow to begin the plan to eliminate Laplace:[65] as she was moved from Paradeus' surface labs, under heavy attacks, to the safety of the White Zone,[66] Morridow diverted Laplace to transport lanes under the surveillance of the Commander's troops and their allies, eventually becoming locked in combat against Task Force DEFY herself. Despite her deal with the Commander to facilitate Laplace's assassination, Morridow realized that she had been double-crossed since DEFY had received orders to also kill her.[67]

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 In Mirror Stage - Dreams on the Island of Dia II (2021), Morridow is shown to have taken her name from the civilian she killed and impersonated, named Morridow Voigt, to enter Ulrich's entourage. In Angular Gyrus - Light as a Feather I (2024), it's instead said that the name Morridow was decided by the creator of Project Cocoon, along with Machlian and Badbsca. The first origin is more consistent with how Gray got her name from impersonation, while the second origin is necessary to complete the thematic connection between the subjects of Project Cocoon.

Trivia

  • Morridow's name is a mix of Morrigan, an Irish war goddess, and “Shadow”.[68][3] Bramedb is similarly named after an Irish warrior figure.
  • In the alternate timeline witnessed by Angelia during the “Autumn” story of Slow Shock, Q warned Angelia about Morridow's nature in advance.[69] Due to M4 never intervening in Sector D8, Morridow successfully killed the Commander and captured Dandelion.[70]
