Weapon Background

The XM556 is a microgun (electric rotary barrel gun firing 5.56x45mm or similar) developed by Empty Shell. It is built for military use primarily and for high volume defensive suppression for both infantry and vehicles. It weighs only 16 pounds and can use either 10 or 16 inch barrels, with 10 inch barrels making it shorter than most service rifles and the same size as most PDWs. It is also not a scaled down M134 and uses unique internal systems to increase its reliability. Rate of fire is selectable by the operator and can fire from 2000 rpm up to 6000, its electric systems driven by any 24 volt power source. It is still in its prototype phase and has not been adopted by anyone yet.
