Lore / Story involvement

The Eber was originally introduced in the event Exotic Cadence in CN, which was replaced by Amidst Wings of Gray and never ran in other servers. Tumorhynchus was used as the boss of the replacement event, and Eber wasn't featured in the new story either. The place of Eber in canon is uncertain.

The Ebers are mechanical reproductions of auspicious beasts displayed during a festive parade in CHE-02. The height of the celebration would be reached when a young man would climb the Eber and draw the pupils of its eyes. They were created by the engineers of the village of 乌扎马德奇 (tentatively “Uzamadezh”), who were tempted by the Girard Group to rig them with explosives to take revenge on the URNC for the destruction of their village.

In Chinese mythology, the concept of auspicious beasts (瑞兽) usually refer to the dragon, the phoenix, the turtle and the qilin (or pixiu). The eyes-dotting (点睛) is related to the Chinese expression "to draw a dragon and dot in the eyes" (画龙点睛), meaning “to put on the finishing touch to something” and based on the legend of Zhang Sengyou, whose painted dragons sprung to life when their pupils were painted.

Trivia

  • Eber is German for “boar”.
